As I sat at the piano ready to start on a new piece of music I was taken by an idea.
Dance this Night tries to capture the unrestrained movement of a body in motion.
At first sight the light might seem uncontrolled, random, but the more I gaze upon these forms, brief glimpses of a body in mid-flow appear before me. It is as if the eye begins to dance across the image, searching for form, free to wander from one feeling, one thought, to another...
Heartbeat
Like music, dance is essentially an abstract medium. The still image above might be viewed of as so far from the nature of dance and music which requires time to unfold, yet the still image allows one to rest one's mind, ponder, meditate.
At one moment I see someone balanced, reaching out with their left hand in a gesture that speaks of equilibrium. At another their open arms, full with light, their body arched away seems more dynamic, more an expression of elation. The image is to you your own to be whatever you wish to see...
